How to overclock GPU for KLS, ALPH, PYI, RXD?

May 5, 2023, 6:06 p.m.

There is no "the best" way to overclock a graphics card, as it depends on individual preferences. Some prefer achieving the maximum hashrate, while others want to reduce electricity costs.

We will provide you with some basic overclocking guidelines so you can find the optimal values for your specific mining scenario.

We will focus on overclocking techniques for Nvidia and AMD GPUs, specifically for the following algorithms:

  • Karlsen KarlsenHash (KLS)
  • Alephium Blake3 (ALPH)
  • Pyrin PyrinHash (PYI)
  • Radiant Sha512256D (RXD)

How to Overclock Your Graphics Card

  • Miners' settings: Service commands allow you to control the miner. You can use them both in the Kryptex PRO or other standalone miners.
  • MSI Afterburner: This is a universal app that you can use to overclock both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards. You can adjust the the core and memory frequencies, fan speed, and power consumption.
  • Native utilities: Graphics card manufacturers often provide their overclocking utilities. For instance, AMD GPUs have a built-in overclocking tool that gets installed along with the drivers.

Be careful using overclocking commands, as different miners have their commands.

The miner.download website provides detailed information on commands and scenarios for their use.

Basic Guidelines

If you want to overclock a graphics card for the KLS, ALPH, PYI or RXD algorithms, follow these basic rules:

  • Reduce the GPU memory frequency as much as possible, as these algorithms don't use the memory.
  • Adjust the core frequencies and power consumption to achieve the optimal hashrate and power consumption.
  • Set the fan speed according to your preferences.

Let's take overclocking the RTX 3070 as an example. You can use the same method to overclock your GPUs, or you can find detailed settings for different GPUs in our Overclocking Database.

Memory Clock

For KLS, ALPH, PYI, and RXD algorithms, reducing the memory clock to the minimum value will lower the temperature and GPU power consumption since these algorithms don't use memory.

  • In MSI Afterburner, set the Memory Clock value to the minimum of -502.
  • In the miner settings (lolminer as an example), fix the memory frequency at 810 Megahertz using the command --mclk 810.

Core Clock

KLS, ALPH, PYI, and RXD algorithms use the core, which means that the higher the core frequency, the higher the hashrate, but the power consumption will also increase. RTX 3000 Series best clocks will be 1305-1700 Megahertz.

  • In MSI Afterburner, switch to the Core Offset step.
  • In the miner settings (lolminer as an example), fix the core frequency at 1470 Megahertz using the command --сlk 1470.

Core Offset

Increasing the core frequency offset will allow the GPU to raise the frequency without raising the consumption. However, be careful not to go too high! We recomend 200-400

  • In MSI Afterburner, increase Core Clock by 100-200 MHz.
  • In the miner settings (lolminer as an example), set the core offset to 250 Megahertz using the command --coff 250.

Power Limit

Limiting the GPU's total consumption will increase the mining efficiency.

  • In MSI Afterburner, reduce the Power Limit value until the hashrate starts to drop significantly or until you reach the desired value for the GPU consumption. In our case, set the value to 65%.
  • In the miner settings (lolminer as an example), set the maximum consumption threshold in watts to --pl 200.

Fan Speed

Adjusting the fan speed according to your preferences:

  • In MSI Afterburner, set the Fan Speed to 50%.
  • In the miner settings (lolminer as an example), use the command --fan 50.

Tests and Results

You can overclock your GPU for maximum power savings or maximum hashrate.

Here are two options:

  1. For maximum hashrate: 615 mh/s and 100 watts consumption:
    --coff 210 --cclk 1740 --mclk 810 --pl 200 --fan 50.
  2. For maximum savings: 460 mh/s at 48 watt consumption:
     --coff 300 --cclk 1305 --mclk 810 --pl 150 --fan 50.

Remember that overclocking differs for each graphics card; even the same graphics cards can be overclocked differently. Therefore, you should independently select overclocking settings for each card and monitor stability. No one can overclock a graphics card better than you!
